William F. Cody, "Buffalo Bill" (1846 - 1917)
As one of the youngest and most daring Pony Express riders, Cody holds the record for the longest single ride of 320 miles in less than 21 hours. He served with the Cavalry in the Civil War and was chief scout for all the Armies of the West. Later employed as a buffalo hunter for the Kansas Pacific Railroad, he killed and delivered 4,280 buffalo in 17 months, earning the name "Buffalo Bill." "Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show" began in 1883 traveling throughout the USA and in Europe on seven different tours. The Honorable William Frederick Cody came to embody all that is legendary about the Old West.
