Wild Bill Hickok (1837 - 1876)
Gun fighter, Indian scout, Union spy, U. S. Marcdhal, gambler and actor, James Butler Hickok is one of the best known frontier personalities. Critically wounded in battle by a Cheyenne lance, Hickok ended his scouting careet and became the U. S. Marshal in the cattle town of Abilene, Kansas. Later he settled in the mining town of Deadwood, where he befriended Calamity Jane. Hickok's days came to an end on August 2, 1876, in Deadwood's #10 Saloon, shot in the back of the head by Jack McCall while holding Aces and Eights (the dead man's hand.)
